What happened to Sasuke in Boruto?
Sasuke Uchiha, once one of the most powerful shinobi, plays a crucial role in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. As the last surviving Uchiha, he serves as a mentor to Boruto Uzumaki and acts as the Hidden Leaf’s protector from external threats.
During the events of the series, Sasuke faces numerous challenges, including battles with Ōtsutsuki clan members such as Kinshiki, Momoshiki, and Isshiki. Despite his immense power, these encounters weaken him over time, and his role transitions from an unstoppable warrior to a vulnerable figure.
One of the most significant moments in Sasuke’s arc occurs when he confronts Isshiki Ōtsutsuki alongside Naruto. In this battle, Naruto unlocks Baryon Mode, a transformation that drastically enhances his power at the cost of Kurama’s life. Sasuke, however, struggles against Isshiki’s superior abilities and is unable to prevent Naruto’s immense sacrifice.
Later, during a confrontation with Code and Momoshiki-possessed Boruto, Sasuke suffers his most devastating loss. Boruto, under Momoshiki’s control, pierces Sasuke’s left eye with a kunai, destroying his Rinnegan. This cripples Sasuke’s ability to use powerful techniques like space-time ninjutsu, severely limiting his combat potential.
Following this, Sasuke becomes increasingly dependent on his base abilities and Sharingan. His loss of the Rinnegan prevents him from traveling dimensions easily, affecting his role as the main line of defense against the Ōtsutsuki threat.
As Boruto’s story progresses, Sasuke continues to guide his student despite his weakened state. However, his circumstances worsen during the events surrounding Eida’s Omnipotence ability. When Eida rewrites reality, she alters memories across the world, making everyone believe that Kawaki is Naruto’s biological son and Boruto is an outsider responsible for the Hokage’s disappearance. Even Sasuke, despite his bond with Boruto, falls victim to this illusion and views Boruto as an enemy.
Despite this, a part of Sasuke senses something is wrong. He ultimately chooses to trust Boruto, giving him his sword and allowing him to escape from the Hidden Leaf. This marks a significant moment in Sasuke’s character arc, as he once again plays the role of a rogue ninja, guiding Boruto just as he was once guided by Jiraiya.
As of the latest events in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Sasuke’s whereabouts remain unknown. He is presumed to be assisting Boruto in secret, preparing him for the inevitable confrontation with Kawaki and the new Ōtsutsuki threats.
