Assault Rifles
Siegebreaker
The Siegebreaker is often considered one of the most iconic assault rifles in Fortnite Save the World. It boasts an impressively high rate of fire, decent accuracy, and a large magazine size, making it an excellent option for sustained damage against mobs of Husks. Although its base damage may not be as high as some other ARs, the reliability and consistency make it a favorite among many players. One of the key perks of the Siegebreaker is that its blueprint can drop relatively early in the game, allowing new players to quickly obtain and upgrade it.
When it comes to perk rolls, many players prefer to build the Siegebreaker for crit damage or crit chance, combining these perks with either magazine size or reload speed. Since it has a naturally high fire rate, pairing it with an increased magazine or faster reload further enhances its constant stream of bullets. Elemental choices typically reflect late-game needs, where players face elemental Husks (Nature, Water, Fire), so adding an appropriate element can give the Siegebreaker extra utility. Some players prefer Energy as a universal option, while others tailor the element specifically to the type of mission they are farming. No matter the preference, having a well-rolled Siegebreaker in your arsenal provides a steady, straightforward, and robust solution to mid- and high-level content.
Nocturno
The Nocturno is essentially a reskinned version of the Siegebreaker with a unique look and a special significance, thanks to its association with the founder’s edition of the game. Mechanically, it is nearly identical to the Siegebreaker: high fire rate, moderate recoil, and a flexible perk system. Although some consider it purely a collector's item, its performance is undeniably potent if you choose to invest resources into it.
Because the Nocturno shares the same stat profile with the Siegebreaker, any recommended perk setup for a Siegebreaker generally applies to the Nocturno as well. In most cases, players opt for crit rating and crit damage to maximize high fire rate, ensuring each bullet has a respectable chance to hit harder. Reload speed is another popular choice to keep downtime minimal. Whether you're a collector who appreciates the Nocturno for its rarity or simply someone seeking a top-tier AR, it’s a practical choice that will remain relevant throughout your Save the World journey.
Wraith
The Wraith is a favorite assault rifle among late-game players due to its combination of high impact, manageable recoil, and strong damage output. While the fire rate is not as rapid as a Siegebreaker, the Wraith compensates with higher overall damage per shot. It also benefits from a built-in silencer in its design, though stealth mechanics in Save the World are not as pivotal as they might be in other games. Still, the subdued firing can help with controlling large crowds of enemies in certain scenarios because you can line up shots a bit more deliberately without intense muzzle flash.
Players who use the Wraith often leverage crit builds. A common loadout might include perks like crit rating, crit damage, damage, and then either another damage perk or magazine size. The final perk might also be an element. As with most assault rifles in higher difficulty zones, an elemental perk is beneficial to handle specialized Husks. Whether you choose Energy for overall coverage or a specific element for certain missions is a matter of preference. The Wraith's overall stability and damage profile make it one of the more consistent ARs in Save the World, capable of shredding both standard mobs and Mist Monsters.
Vacuum Tube Rifle
The Vacuum Tube Rifle stands out for its innate synergy with a Nature element, making it especially effective against Water-based Husks. It comes with a unique chain lighting effect when you land crits, allowing players to deal damage to multiple enemies clustered together. This AoE potential can be game-changing in missions that spawn large waves of tightly packed enemies. The chain lightning is also visually satisfying, letting you see a lightning arc jump among several Husks when you get that crucial crit.
In terms of perk selection, the Vacuum Tube Rifle benefits significantly from crit chance and crit damage because the chain lightning triggers on crit hits. Players often opt for double crit damage, a crit rating perk, and either reload speed or magazine size. Because its base damage is moderate, focusing on increasing critical hits elevates its damage output considerably. When combined with hero loadouts that further augment crit chance or boost ranged weapon damage, the Vacuum Tube Rifle becomes a specialized crowd-control monster, ideal for high-level missions featuring numerous Water enemies.
Bundlebuss
Technically categorized as a rifle, the Bundlebuss can function almost like a sniper thanks to its tremendous burst damage. It uses the flintlock weapon set mechanics, meaning each shot delivers a powerful volley of bullets. Despite having a brief time between bursts, each trigger pull can decimate even the toughest Husks if you have the right perks. It excels particularly in situations where you need to quickly take down a Smasher or a miniboss, as its burst damage allows you to front-load a lot of firepower.
The typical perk loadout for the Bundlebuss revolves around crit damage and raw damage improvements. Since the weapon fires a volley of rounds in a single burst, each bullet within that burst benefits from crit damage, effectively multiplying your total damage if you manage to land a critical hit. Another perk often included is magazine size or reload speed to mitigate downtime. Because the Bundlebuss is geared toward intense burst damage, it pairs well with heroes who offer perks like increased assault rifle damage or boosted crit chance. The Bundlebuss remains a top contender for players looking to obliterate tough enemies in a few well-aimed shots.
Sniper Rifles
Neon Sniper Rifle
The Neon Sniper Rifle is unique in that it has a scope with a special x-ray ability, allowing players to see and shoot through certain walls and obstacles. This ability can be highly advantageous in certain mission types or defensive scenarios, letting you target Husks without exposing yourself to their attacks. Although its raw damage is middling compared to some other sniper rifles, the ability to snipe enemies through structures can dramatically enhance your defensive strategies.
Players often choose to build the Neon Sniper with a mix of damage, crit chance, and crit damage. Some prefer to increase reload speed because snipers inherently have slower reload times, while others opt for a larger magazine. Additionally, the Neon Sniper Rifle deals energy-based damage, making it a solid universal sniper for many missions. While it may not be the absolute highest single-shot damage sniper, its unique utility keeps it relevant in a variety of mission types.
Obliterator
The Obliterator is known for its massive damage per shot, significant impact, and ability to pierce through multiple Husks lined up in a row. This bolt-action sniper can knock down even tanky targets if built for maximum damage. The trade-off is its slow rate of fire and noticeable recoil, meaning you have to carefully plan your shots. For players who enjoy setting up defensive perimeters or vantage points, the Obliterator can feel incredibly satisfying when a single bullet rips through multiple Husks.
Common perk setups revolve around crit damage and crit rating to emphasize its already high base damage. Because of its slow reload, many players add a reload speed perk or rely on hero loadouts that bolster reload efficiency. Another reason the Obliterator stands out is its ability to deal with environmental objects easily, for instance, destroying unwanted structures if you need to clear a line of sight. In high-level missions, you can quickly dispatch major threats like Blasters and Lobbers before they become a nuisance. The Obliterator rewards patient, skilled aim with some of the most devastating shots in Save the World.
Super Shredder
Though labeled a sniper rifle, the Super Shredder functions more like a shotgun-rifle hybrid. It fires multiple pellets in a tight spread, which means it can deal massive damage at mid-range. At longer distances, the spread can result in lower accuracy, but properly positioning yourself to make use of its range often allows for reliable kills without getting too close. Because it’s effectively a shotgun with sniper-level per-shot damage, it’s particularly good at flinching or staggering tougher enemies before they reach you or your objective.
Perk suggestions for the Super Shredder typically include crit damage, crit chance, and some form of damage multiplier to get the most out of its pellet spread. Reload speed can also be beneficial since controlling the time between shots is crucial when dealing with waves of enemies. Players who enjoy a more aggressive mid-range playstyle find the Super Shredder invaluable, as it offers high damage and a relatively quick TTK (time to kill) for both standard mobs and tougher enemies.
Pistols
Bald Eagle
The Bald Eagle is a high-caliber pistol capable of dishing out immense single-shot damage. It features a revolver-like firing style with a slower rate of fire but each bullet packed with stopping power. This makes it excellent for taking down Mist Monsters or smaller enemies in one or two shots, assuming you have the aim to land critical hits. Positioning the Bald Eagle as a sidearm or a backup weapon for quickly dealing with surprise threats is a popular approach among experienced players.
Players usually perk the Bald Eagle with crit damage, crit chance, and perhaps an element for maximum utility in late-game missions. Because the weapon is meant to deliver powerful single-shot or low-shot bursts, reload speed is a key consideration. With the right hero loadout-such as a pistol-focused Outlander or a hero who boosts pistol damage-the Bald Eagle can outperform some rifles in terms of raw burst damage against special targets. Its main drawback is its slower firing rate, so it may not be as well-suited to clearing large crowds. Instead, it shines in picking off high-value targets.
Founder's Revolt
The Founder's Revolt is a fully automatic pistol known for its high fire rate and respectable damage. Initially, it was accessible exclusively to Founder's Pack owners, but some events or expansions may occasionally offer a chance to acquire it. Its main strengths include its versatility and ability to tag multiple Husks in quick succession. You can effectively deal with waves of smaller enemies without sacrificing too much single-target damage, which is particularly convenient for a pistol.
Because the Founder's Revolt has a decent base crit chance, many builds amplify crit rating and crit damage to turn it into a powerful crowd-control sidearm. Magazine size can also be a strong perk to reduce the frequency of reloading. Another perk selection might involve elemental damage, but many players keep it flexible with an Energy perk to cover multiple enemy types. The Founder's Revolt remains one of the most user-friendly pistols in Save the World, allowing for consistent DPS over extended encounters.
Steam Piston Pistol (Steam Skewer)
The Steam Skewer, sometimes referred to as the Steam Piston Pistol, stands out for its steampunk aesthetic and strong single-shot damage. It’s part of the steampunk weapon set, featuring moderate recoil and a fairly large projectile. Although not as popular as some other pistols due to its unique firing style, it can still pack a serious punch against standard and elite enemies. For players who appreciate a more methodical approach to pistol play, the Steam Skewer can be especially rewarding.
As with many single-shot or limited magazine pistols, perk prioritization often leans toward crit damage, crit chance, and a beneficial element type. Reload speed or magazine size can further enhance its user experience, ensuring you can follow up shots more rapidly. While it may not top the charts for raw DPS, its uniqueness and potential synergy with certain hero builds can make it a hidden gem in the pistol category. Especially during missions that require precise takedowns, the Steam Skewer offers a satisfying alternative to more conventional sidearms.
Shotguns
Dragons Roar (Dragon’s Might)
Although referred to occasionally by different names like Dragon’s Roar (for AR) or Dragon’s Might (for the launcher), there is also a dragon-themed shotgun in the set known as the Dragon's Fury or Dragon's Breath Shotgun. The key point about these dragon weapons is their ability to apply a lingering fire damage over time effect. The shotgun variant hits Husks hard up close and can apply the fire DOT (damage over time), which helps in continuously wearing down enemies.
A typical perk approach for this dragon shotgun might be crit chance, crit damage, additional damage, or reload speed. Since it already benefits from a built-in fire effect, many players choose to accentuate that feature by further boosting fire or raw damage. In fire missions or against nature-type Husks, the dragon series shotguns can truly stand out. However, one must keep an eye on ammo consumption and reload times, as shotguns generally consume shells quickly. The payoff is massive burst damage at close quarters.
Ground Pounder
The Ground Pounder is often lauded for its quick fire rate and decent range for a shotgun. It behaves like a semi-automatic shotgun, allowing multiple shots in quick succession. This is valuable when dealing with a swarm of Husks up close, as you can deliver sustained damage without the slower pump action of some other shotguns. Despite its fast pace, the Ground Pounder still hits fairly hard, making it a balanced weapon for close-quarter engagements.
Perk rolls generally lean towards crit rating and crit damage to maximize each volley of pellets. Another approach could involve raw damage boosts with reload speed or magazine size to keep you from constantly reloading in the middle of a fight. Hero loadouts that focus on shotgun perks, such as buckshot-themed or close-range bonuses, can elevate the Ground Pounder’s output to formidable levels. If you prioritize a high-damage, fast-firing shotgun that excels in short bursts, the Ground Pounder remains a fantastic choice.
Double Boiler
The Double Boiler is a break-action shotgun known for delivering two very potent shots before reloading. It is reminiscent of a traditional double-barreled shotgun, offering a strong up-front burst at the expense of a longer reload time. When played correctly, the Double Boiler can obliterate standard Husks and deal massive damage to tougher enemies by quickly unleashing both barrels. Players who prefer a “hit hard and reposition” approach often gravitate toward this weapon.
Perk roll recommendations for the Double Boiler revolve around crit damage and crit chance. Since each shot can be devastating, maximizing your chance to land a critical can yield spectacular damage numbers. Reload speed is an almost mandatory perk here, reducing downtime between the two-shot sequences. While it may not be the best for sustained fights against large swarms, it excels at picking off high-priority targets or quickly thinning a wave before ducking behind cover. With the right hero perks, the Double Boiler can be a powerhouse in close-range scenarios.
Submachine Guns
Typewriter
The Typewriter, affectionately called the “Drum Gun” by many players, is an SMG/AR hybrid that offers a large magazine and moderate fire rate. Though the in-game classification can vary, many treat it as a submachine gun because of its bullet-hose style. It is ideal for dealing sustained damage to groups of enemies, particularly at mid-range. Its unique drum magazine helps maintain continuous fire, reducing the need for frequent reloads.
Perk setups typically include crit rating and crit damage, with some players preferring to add magazine size to push its already large drum even further. Alternatively, reload speed can be a lifesaver when you inevitably have to reload. Adding an element such as Energy or specialized Fire/Nature/Water perks expands its versatility in high-level missions. The Typewriter pairs nicely with hero builds that grant SMG or assault damage buffs, letting you mow down waves of Husks with ease. Thanks to its high capacity and steady DPS, it’s commonly regarded as one of the most reliable mid-range bullet-hose weapons in Save the World.
Ghost Pistol
Although labeled as a pistol, many fans consider the Ghost Pistol to behave somewhat like an SMG due to its firing style, which can be spammed at a moderate pace. This spectral weapon has the interesting property of its bullets passing through walls and enemies, hitting targets in a line. The ghostly rounds allow you to shoot enemies that are taking cover or are behind certain obstacles, albeit with reduced projectile speed.
Building the Ghost Pistol for crit chance and crit damage often yields impressive results, especially if you can line up multiple Husks for a single shot. The passing-through-walls feature can be a niche advantage in defensive missions where enemies are behind structures. Reload speed or magazine size can be helpful, but many players focus purely on maximizing damage to exploit its unique projectile properties. While it might not be classified as a standard SMG, the Ghost Pistol can fill a similar role for players who appreciate creative ways to handle tricky spawn locations.
Explosive Weapons
Noble Launcher
The Noble Launcher is a crowd-control powerhouse, firing a continuous beam of energy that can be charged to multiple levels for increasing damage and wider area-of-effect. This distinct method of discharge allows you to tailor your shot to match the situation: a short charge for a quick burst or a max charge for a massive wave-clearing shot. It excels in base defense missions, where large clusters of Husks approach in predictable lanes, giving you ample time to line up a charged shot.
Perking the Noble Launcher can be done in various ways, but many players emphasize damage and reload speed because each shot can be decisive. Crit-based builds are less common here, as you often rely on the raw AoE potential. Energy is the default element, which conveniently makes the Noble Launcher equally effective against different elemental Husks. Its versatility and unique charge mechanic have cemented its place among the top explosive weapons in Save the World, especially for players who value large-scale crowd control.
Santa’s Little Helper
The Santa’s Little Helper rocket launcher is one of the most sought-after explosive weapons due to its massive area-of-effect damage, holiday-themed visuals, and ability to clear out waves of Husks in a single shot. Though it is event-specific, it frequently reappears in the game’s holiday events, allowing newer players to acquire it. Its strong, explosive payload can one-shot weaker Husks and heavily damage stronger targets.
The typical perk loadout focuses on damage, crit damage, or a mix of both. Reload speed is also very helpful since explosive weapons often have limited ammo and slower reload times. Hero loadouts that reduce explosive ammo cost or amplify launcher damage can further augment Santa’s Little Helper’s potency. Its major disadvantage is ammo cost, as rockets are more resource-intensive. However, if you manage your ammo economy, Santa’s Little Helper remains one of the most reliable ways to wipe out large clusters of enemies quickly.
Potshot
The Potshot is a single-shot rocket launcher with extremely high impact and damage, making it perfect for dealing with minibosses, Smashers, and other priority targets. It has a single round in the chamber before needing to be reloaded, so each shot must count. When used correctly, a single Potshot rocket can severely weaken or outright kill large enemies, assuming you have the right perks in place.
Players usually perk the Potshot for crit rating and crit damage, pushing its single-shot damage to the limit. Reload speed is also crucial, as you don’t want to be stuck reloading while a Smasher charges at you. Although the Potshot’s area-of-effect is smaller than some other launchers, its primary purpose is to decimate specific threats rather than clearing waves. When combined with a hero loadout designed around explosives or heavy weapon bonuses, the Potshot transforms into a top-tier boss killer in Save the World.
Energy Weapons
Storm King’s Scourge
The Storm King’s Scourge is one of the legendary weapons dropped from high-level Storm King missions. It deals energy damage by default, making it adaptable in all sorts of mission types. Its stats are typically superior to standard weapons, as it’s intended to reward players for defeating late-game challenges. The Storm King’s Scourge is recognized for its balanced fire rate, strong impact, and high base damage, making it a prime choice for endgame content.
Given its elevated stats, many players roll crit chance, crit damage, and additional damage perks to exploit the weapon’s impressive baseline. Reload speed or magazine size can be considered quality-of-life perks. Because it is an endgame weapon, the Storm King’s Scourge pairs exceptionally well with top-tier hero loadouts that amplify assault rifle damage or energy weapon damage. If you’re looking to crush the toughest missions with a flexible energy-based AR, this weapon is arguably one of the best in slot.
Storm King’s Wrath
Another endgame exclusive, the Storm King’s Wrath is essentially a laser cannon known for absurdly high damage potential if you charge it up before firing. It can eliminate large groups of enemies or heavily damage a miniboss in a single shot, but you have to manage the charging mechanic. Considered a top-tier choice for dealing with the Mythic Storm King fight itself, the Storm King’s Wrath remains highly relevant in other missions too.
Perk selection often revolves around crit damage, crit rating, and sometimes raw damage to ensure that each fully charged shot devastates anything in its path. Its base energy damage means it remains useful against all elemental Husks, and the wide area-of-effect helps with crowd control. Because of the charging mechanic and relatively small magazine, reload speed can also be beneficial. The Storm King’s Wrath is for players who relish high-risk, high-reward gameplay, where timing your shots yields incredible results.
Perk and Loadout Synergy
Building the best ranged weapons in Fortnite Save the World goes beyond just picking a weapon and slapping on random perks. Synergy between the weapon’s attributes and your hero loadout can amplify damage to an enormous degree. For instance, a soldier hero focused on assault rifle damage can push a Siege Breaker or Wraith to new heights. Some ninjas specialize in swordplay, so they might not benefit as much from ranged weapons, but you can still combine them with support heroes who offer universal damage bonuses.
Certain heroes offer specialized perks such as increased crit rating or crit damage for specific weapon classes. Outlanders, for example, sometimes have pistol buffs that turn sidearms like the Bald Eagle into boss killers. Constructors often revolve around fort defenses, but certain perks can still help with raw damage if you plan to stand your ground and keep enemies at bay with a high-powered rifle or shotgun. Understanding these synergies-like pairing the Vacuum Tube Rifle with heroes who increase crit chance for rifles-can make a night-and-day difference in your final DPS output.
Additionally, keep in mind how weapon elements fit into your loadout. If your hero perk revolves around dealing extra damage to elemental Husks, you might want a matching element on your ranged weapon. If you’re playing in top-tier Twine Peaks missions, having different weapons each rolled with a unique element ensures you’re prepared for any elemental enemy type. Carefully balancing hero perks, support team bonuses, and weapon perks is the secret to dealing with each mission efficiently and confidently.
Tips and Tricks for Maximizing Ranged Weapons
1. Focus on Critical Builds: High fire rate weapons like the Siegebreaker, Wraith, or Typewriter excel with crit builds. The more bullets you fire, the more chances you have to land critical hits, which in turn can skyrocket your damage output. Stacking crit damage perks with at least one crit chance perk ensures you consistently land powerful shots.
2. Match Elements to Enemies: In higher difficulties, Husks often come in elemental variants. Matching your weapon’s element to enemy weaknesses (Fire for Nature, Water for Fire, and Nature for Water) significantly increases your damage. If you are uncertain which element to choose, Energy is a safer general option, though it will never deal bonus elemental damage.
3. Manage Ammo and Resources: Some of the best ranged weapons can also be ammo-hungry. For example, the Bundlebuss or high fire-rate SMGs might burn through ammo rapidly. Always stockpile the required ammo materials to avoid running out mid-mission. Consider bringing a backup weapon with a different ammo type if you anticipate resource constraints.
4. Leverage Hero Loadouts Wisely: Don’t forget to equip a main hero that boosts the weapon category you plan on using most often. For instance, a soldier with assault rifle perks if you rely on ARs. Use support and tactical heroes that complement your main hero’s perks to further enhance your chosen weapon type.
5. Upgrade Appropriately: When you reach higher tiers of missions, upgrading your weapons from copper to silver to malachite and beyond is essential. Many top-tier weapons also benefit from deciding between Obsidian vs. Shadowshard or Sunbeam vs. Brightcore, as each path has different advantages in durability, damage, and fire rate. Pick the one that fits your playstyle.
6. Balance Reload Speed and Magazine Size: Some weapons naturally have large magazines but long reload times. Others might have smaller magazines but reload quickly. Tailor your perks to strike a balance. If you’re constantly in the fray with few breaks, a faster reload speed might be better. If you can find safe moments to reload, a larger magazine might be more helpful for dealing continuous damage.
7. Test Weapons in Different Missions: Different mission types-whether it’s Retrieve the Data, Ride the Lightning, or Endurance-come with varied layouts and spawn patterns. Experimenting with different weapons can reveal surprising strengths. A weapon that excels in corridor defense might not be as strong in open-field missions, and vice versa.
Resource Investment and Crafting
Crafting a top-tier weapon in Save the World requires a steady stream of resources like ores (silver, malachite, obsidian, shadowshard, brightcore, sunbeam), wood, nuts and bolts, and mechanical parts. High-level weapons often have significant crafting costs, so it’s prudent to focus your resources on a small selection of weapons you truly enjoy or that fill an important niche. For example, if you love shotguns, investing heavily in a Ground Pounder or Double Boiler might be more fulfilling than spreading resources thin across multiple mid-tier weapons.
Also, consider that the evolution path (Obsidian vs. Shadowshard for tier 4, Brightcore vs. Sunbeam for tier 5) affects weapon stats. Obsidian and Brightcore upgrades typically offer better fire rate and durability, while Shadowshard and Sunbeam provide higher damage at the cost of a slower rate of fire and less durability. Players who prefer to spam bullets might lean toward the more durable route, while those who rely on big, singular hits might choose the higher damage path. Knowing your personal playstyle will guide you in making the right decision.
Event and Limited-Time Weapons
Throughout Save the World's various seasons and events, Epic Games introduces special weapon sets-like the Dragon, Steampunk, Neon, Military, or Rat Rod sets. These weapons are only available for a limited time or through event llamas and questlines. Many of these limited-time weapons offer unique perks, such as chain lightning on the Vacuum Tube series, fire AoE on the Dragon series, or piercing rounds on some of the Neon weapons.
It’s highly recommended to keep an eye on event stores and quest rewards, as you can pick up powerful items-like the Santa’s Little Helper or Typewriter-that might not be available during other parts of the year. Event weapons often become meta contenders if they fill a previously neglected niche. If you have the opportunity to obtain these special weapons, weigh their unique mechanics against your existing arsenal. Often, an event weapon can become your new go-to for a particular mission type.
Why Weapon Diversity Matters
Despite the urge to find a single best weapon, Save the World is balanced so that having a variety of weapons for different situations is more effective. Assault rifles might be your bread and butter for medium-range combat, but you’ll occasionally need a sniper rifle to handle distant Lobbers or a rocket launcher to quickly eliminate a horde of charging Husks. A strong pistol can serve as your sidearm for tight corners or for specialized builds that emphasize pistol perks.
Moreover, mission modifiers and elemental enemies can drastically change the viability of certain weapons. Running a water-themed mission with a Fire weapon is suboptimal, while using a Nature-based Vacuum Tube Rifle can prove lethal in the same context. By diversifying your weapon collection, you ensure you’re never caught off-guard by mission restrictions or powerful elite Husks. Remember to keep multiple schematics leveled up and perked out, so you can craft them at a moment’s notice if the mission calls for it.
