Floor Traps
Floor Spikes
Floor Spikes, also known as Wooden Floor Spikes, are among the first traps you’ll encounter in Fortnite Save the World. They do moderate damage over time while slowing any Husk that walks across them. This slow effect is invaluable for controlling the pace of Husks moving through your trap tunnel. Although their direct damage isn't as high as some other traps, the combination of consistent damage ticks and movement slowdown can provide an essential utility.
Optimally, you can place Floor Spikes at the entrance of a trap tunnel or any choke point, so that enemies move slower through the rest of your traps. This allows your heavier-damage traps more time to reload and strike again. Perk-wise, look for reload speed, damage, and durability. A good perk loadout might include increased trap durability, some damage boosts, and a couple of reload speed perks if you’re relying on these for a long hallway of Husks. If you do decide to push the direct damage potential of Floor Spikes, consider pairing them with wall darts or other high-damage traps for synergy.
Tar Pit
The Tar Pit is a special floor trap that applies a strong snaring effect to Husks who step on it, effectively locking them in place for a short duration. This can be especially useful when you want to create a stalling environment for high-threat enemies like Smashers or minibosses, giving your other traps time to deal critical damage. While it doesn’t do a massive amount of damage itself, the utility of holding enemies in place can be game-changing, particularly in higher-level missions.
Pair the Tar Pit with traps that deal continuous damage, such as Ceiling Gas Traps, or place it near damaging wall traps like Wall Dynamos. The synergy of holding enemies still while repeated bursts of damage or area-of-effect attacks hit them is excellent for controlling the battlefield. Because the Tar Pit has a limited number of uses before it breaks, consider putting durability perks on it so you can benefit from its slow effect for the entire duration of a wave. Reload speed is less of a concern here because the Tar Pit doesn’t fire the same way damaging traps do. Instead, it’s the durability that extends its utility.
Floor Freeze Trap
The Floor Freeze Trap is another crowd control floor trap that can immobilize enemies. When triggered, it freezes Husks in place, making them vulnerable to subsequent hits from other traps or from your own weapon. It also provides an added benefit by making the frozen enemies easy targets for headshots if you decide to shoot them.
Damage from the Freeze Trap is modest, so pair it with heavier hitting traps along the walls or ceiling. Look for perks that can improve the freeze duration or reduce the time between activations, such as reload speed. This allows you to freeze enemies more often as they come in waves. Additionally, you can use a combination of Freeze Traps and Tar Pits to create overlapping crowd control. This might be especially useful for missions where you’re dealing with hordes of smaller Husks that can easily overwhelm your defenses if they rush in too quickly.
Sound Wall (Utility Trap)
The Sound Wall is a unique floor trap, though it can also be placed on walls. This trap emits a sound that forces Riot Huskies to drop their riot shield and also deters Propane Husks from igniting their propane tanks prematurely. It’s not a direct damage trap, but its utility can save your structures from the catastrophic explosion caused by exploding propane. The Sound Wall also helps control certain special Husks like those that carry musical instruments or other items.
Players typically use Sound Walls in strategic positions near objectives, ensuring that Huskies drop their shields to become more vulnerable and that Propane Husk don’t blow up your carefully laid traps. Durability is an important perk to consider here since you want to keep these operational for as long as possible. If you’re playing in a group, coordinate with your teammates so they know to place damage traps near the area Sound Walls are neutralizing enemies. This synergy ensures that once the enemies are disarmed, they immediately face lethal damage from other traps.
Wall Traps
Wall Darts
Wall Darts are a staple damage-dealing wall trap that launch sharp darts at a medium range. One of the primary advantages of Wall Darts is that they can reach Husk from multiple tiles away, depending on your trap tunnel design. This extended reach means you can stagger their placement in such a way that multiple sets of Wall Darts fire sequentially as Husks advance.
You’ll want to invest in perks like reload speed, damage, and possibly critical rating or critical damage. Wall Darts have a relatively fast firing rate, but increasing reload speed will ensure they keep up with large waves. Consider using them in conjunction with floor slowing traps, such as Floor Spikes or the Tar Pit, so that enemies spend more time under the line of fire. If you want to maximize efficiency, put the Darts in corners or behind slopes, which can sometimes exploit the trap’s ability to fire through small openings (depending on the environment and building structure).
Wall Dynamo
Wall Dynamo is a high-damage electric trap that zaps Husks in close range. It’s ideal for compact trap tunnels where enemies are guaranteed to pass right by your walls. Its damage is typically higher than Wall Darts, but it has a shorter range and a slower reload time. Because of its electric damage, it’s particularly strong against enemies that aren’t elemental water types, although you can roll an elemental perk if you choose.
Wall Dynamo benefits from perks like reload speed, damage, and crit rating/crit damage if you want to push it even further. Durability can also be important if you’re relying on these for the bulk of your defensive measures. Since the Wall Dynamo hits harder up close, combine it with floor traps that slow or stall enemies, ensuring they remain within the trap’s effective range for as long as possible. You might use a Tar Pit or Freeze Trap just underneath a Wall Dynamo to lock enemies in place for repeated zaps. This combination can quickly dismantle even tougher Husks.
Wall Launcher
The Wall Launcher is a utility trap that pushes Husks away from the wall it’s placed on. It doesn’t do direct damage, but it can be used to knock enemies off ledges, drop them into pits, or simply push them back into more damaging traps. This can be critical for controlling high-density waves, especially in tighter spaces.
Most players utilize Wall Launchers to create an endless loop trap tunnel, where Husk are bounced back and forth between different traps, taking damage all the while. Perk choices should revolve around increased impact and reload speed. Impact determines how far and how strongly enemies are launched. If you can position the Wall Launcher so that it sends enemies off a cliff or into a trap-laden corridor, you multiply its effectiveness. Be aware that certain Husks, like Smashers, have higher resistance to knockback, so the Wall Launcher won’t push them as easily. Even so, it can help keep them from smashing your walls instantly.
Wall Lights
Wall Lights are an excellent crowd control trap that stuns groups of Husks in front of them. When triggered, they emit a flash that stuns enemies for a short duration, making them extremely vulnerable to follow-up attacks. Wall Lights are particularly useful in choke points where multiple Husks are bunched together.
Because they primarily offer a stun rather than damage, you’ll want to pair them with high-damage traps around them, such as Ceiling Electric Fields or Wall Dynamos. Perk selection for Wall Lights usually focuses on reload speed, increased impact or effect duration, and durability so they last multiple waves. In higher-level missions, the stun window can be the key factor that allows your other traps to reset. If you use them in a trap tunnel with a funnel design, entire waves of Husks can get chain-stunned as they enter. This dramatically reduces the time you spend shooting and the materials you spend on repairs.
Sound Wall (Wall Placement)
As mentioned before, the Sound Wall can also be placed on walls, where it serves a similar purpose of disarming Propane Husks and forcing Riot Huskies to drop their shields. Placing it on walls in a corridor can ensure that Husks moving through a trap tunnel are continuously exposed to its effect. While it doesn’t do direct damage, its ability to prevent propane explosions can save you a lot of headache and structural damage.
Often, players will place Sound Walls at the very beginning of a tunnel to guarantee that any Husk carrying propane is immediately disarmed upon entry. This not only protects the front of your base but also ensures that if you use push or launch traps, you won’t risk sending a lit propane tank flying into your defenses. As a purely utility-based trap, perk it for durability and reload speed. The longer it can remain active, the better your tunnel can handle special Husks.
Ceiling Traps
Ceiling Electric Field
The Ceiling Electric Field is a powerful ceiling trap that periodically zaps Husks in a moderate radius below it. It does consistent energy damage, making it effective against most elemental types except for those that specifically resist energy. One of its key advantages is that it can hit multiple Husks simultaneously when they bunch up, which is common in trap tunnels.
Perk-wise, look for damage boosts, crit chance, and reload speed so it can fire more frequently. Additionally, if you’re using it in combination with crowd control traps like the Floor Freeze Trap, you can maximize the time Husks spend under the Electric Field. This synergy allows the Electric Field to deliver multiple strikes before the enemies move on. Because of its area-of-effect nature, placing multiple Ceiling Electric Fields in a row can create a lethal gauntlet that quickly wears down large waves.
Ceiling Gas Trap
Widely regarded as one of the best traps in Fortnite Save the World, the Ceiling Gas Trap releases clouds of toxic gas that linger in the air, causing damage over time to any Husk within its radius. The Gas Trap is especially powerful against clustered groups, dealing damage in ticks, and can be lethal when combined with floor traps that slow or immobilize Husks.
Most players consider the Ceiling Gas Trap an essential for high-level missions. It works wonders against elemental Husks, though you should perk it with the proper damage type or raw damage increases. Ideally, you want to stack reload speed and damage so that the trap can deliver as many gas pulses as possible, and each pulse hits as hard as it can. Durability perks can also help, because these traps see heavy use in prolonged missions. Placing multiple Gas Traps in a tunnel ensures that enemies are constantly taking damage, softening them up significantly before they even reach your walls.
Ceiling Drop Trap (aka Zapper or Dropper)
The Ceiling Drop Trap, sometimes referred to as the Zapper or Dropper, releases a payload of small tires or projectiles onto enemies below when triggered. This causes physical damage and a small area-of-effect knockback. While it might not be as popular as the Ceiling Electric Field or Gas Trap, it still has its uses. The knocking effect can disrupt charging enemies, and the consistent damage from the dropped objects can wear down Husks in a well-designed trap tunnel.
You can place the Ceiling Drop Trap in areas where enemies are funneled into a narrow path, ensuring the dropped projectiles hit as many Husks as possible. Perk selection should emphasize reload speed and damage. If you have multiple lanes, you might dedicate one lane to Drop Traps, one to Gas Traps, and another to Electric Fields. This variety can catch the Husks off-guard as they progress. Additionally, if you place a Wall Launcher underneath, you can bounce Husks back and forth into the drop zone for repeated punishment.
